Who doesn't love to paint? My kids definitely do. We paint frequently but it's usually more low key things like painting rocks, finger painting, or just painting with water colors. To celebrate summer coming to an end, I decided to spread a big plastic tablecloth out on my lawn (and I set up the little ones at a table) and let my kiddos go to town with splatter painting. They had a blast!
The trick is to mix a little water in with your paints so they are thin enough to really splatter. We pulled out all kinds of tools - forks, toothbrushes, big oversized paint brushes - anything to make a fun mess!
It was really fun to see the kids get up and stand on different sides of their pictures and get so in to flinging, dripping, and splatting in the paint.
After we set the painting out to dry and had washed everybody up (I had a few kids who looked like a Jackson Pollock themselves!), I read a short biography of Jackson Pollock and showed them a few of his paintings. So fun to connect what we had done to someone famous!
