This is one of those tried and true classics that every kid needs to experience in their life. And this was way cooler to do it outside and make what looked like a real volcano!
All you need is baking soda and vinegar - and a bit of food coloring if you'd like it to look like lava!
A little baking soda in the middle of a dirt pile (we wet the dirt a bit so it would keep it's shape better and look more volcano-like).
A few drops of red food coloring over the baking soda...
Start pouring the vinegar (after your kids count down from ten, excitedly, of course!)...
And viola! One super cool, erupting volcano! My kids were screaming and jumping up and down each time we did this. We went through about a gallon of vinegar and my yard smelled like an easter egg for a few hours, but it was SO fun!
We also did this a couple of days later using different colors of food coloring. We tried putting in two different colors together and we watched them mix as it erupted. Such a great way to reinforce color blends!
Easy, inexpensive, quick experiment and my kiddos went crazy for it. Never underestimate the classics! They all stuck their feet in while it was bubbling and said it felt super cool - they were all about this one! Super fun!
