I have ministered to children for years (decades, really). It has been many years ago now since God gave me 3 John 4 as my “theme” scripture.
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my
children are walking in the truth”
It meant so much to me. It spoke of my own three children, of course. My oldest finished school in the public system, while my younger two were home schooled from junior high through graduation. And it spoke to me of the children in my care at our church - loads of them!
It has become such a real truth in my life. Watching these kids as they become adults and spouses and parents has been a delight. Even when watching from afar. Hearing stories of their exploits for God touches me in the deep recesses of my heart. And, conversely, when I hear of struggles or bad choices or worse, it also touches me deeply and brings me to my knees.
Recently, as I was working on a fresh new approach to this business He has laid on my heart, the name was hard to come by. Amy and I tossed ideas around, we went back and forth a few times. And we prayed (of course we prayed). Nothing worked. We thought of hundreds of words with meaning, dozens of combinations. Nothing. AARRRGH!!! We both had that "feeling" that the right name was just out of reach.
Then, one afternoon, quietly and suddenly it came to me. 3John4 Resources. It was exactly right. It has to do with ministering to children, in the home or church or neighborhood or foreign land, and it speaks to our hearts’ desire to see them know the truth and walk in it.
It is in the infant stage right now, but it will grow. It will be a resource for moms and children's ministers for unique supplemental teaching tools to help in the pursuit of bringing truth alive in those little ones' hearts.
So, there you are, the short and sweet story of our name. We hope you are blessed in your work with children, whatever form that may take.
